The City of Glens Falls received funding from the New York State Department of State to prepare a Smart Growth Comprehensive Plan.
This plan will assist the City of Glens Falls in creating an environment for equitable, sustainable, and resilient economic growth in the 21st Century. The plan will establish a shared set of values that will help establish priorities that will guide and inform specific actions that can lead the community toward a vision of future equitable and sustainable prosperity. Future prosperity means that the city increases its chances to create jobs, attracts (and retains) a mobile workforce and households with choices, and that the city as a whole becomes stronger with an increased ability to reinvest in itself and its future. This new comprehensive plan will be the “work plan” for how to achieve the overarching goals of economic growth, community attractiveness, sustainability, and resiliency.
What is Smart Growth?
Smart Growth is a community development strategy that aims to guide future growth in a way that prioritizes sustainability, equity, and economic prosperity by incorporating principles like mixed land use, diverse housing options, accessible transportation, and preservation of natural areas, all within a comprehensive planning document that outlines goals and actions to achieve them; essentially, it's a plan for managing growth while creating more livable, environmentally friendly communities. This project seeks to address the 15 Smart Growth Principles below.
